Arrangers upgraded
The music library's catalogue contains about 45.000 titles of ensemble arrangements of popular music. These catalogue records have undergone a little makeover. As of today the arranger's name figures at the top of each bibliographic description, combined with year of birth, nationality and year of death (if applicable).
This is the result of a discussion initiated by Embert-Jan Messelink, in which we decided to consider the role of these arrangers comparable of that of a classical composer. That is why we treat them as such in our library catalogue, which means that:
- a validated name form is entered in the authority file
- the arranger's name figures atop the bibliographic descriptions of his works
- the arranger's year of birth, nationality and year of death, synonyms and pseudonyms (if applicable) are entered in the authority file
- (a link to) relevant information (official website!) are entered in the authority file
- the official website is listed on the special links page of the music library's website
So, nearly 1100 arranger's names in the authority file have been checked and made uniform. Biographical data of a substantial part has been added. And the bibliographic catalogue confirms this new status of the arranger in our library.
